Dan Scales

Dan Scales started Beekeeping at age 13. His dad bought him unassembled bee equipment from Sears and Roebuck. Along with the help of a beekeeping mentor, Dan acquired 7 colonies. He kept those hives for 3 years, but had to leave them behind when his family moved out of state. Dan got back into beekeeping in 2003 and has been pursuing his passion for honeybees ever since. He was president of the Coweta Beekeepers Association from 2016-2018. Dan passed the Master Beekeeper Exam in 2018 through the Alabama Master Beekeeping program. He and his wife, Dora, now own and operate a bee equipment supply store called Sweet Kingdom, LLC. in Newnan, GA. They also maintain more than 100 colonies. Dan enjoys teaching and mentoring children, as well as adults, about the importance of honeybees in our lives.

Bobby Torbush

After starting beekeeping in 2007, by December 2010, Bobby Torbush was voted Beekeeper of the Year by Coweta Beekeepers Association.  He became president of the club in 2011 and served for two years.  During the course of his presidency he earned his Journeyman certificate in the University of Georgia Beekeeping program.  By May 2015, he accomplished his goal of receiving his Master Beekeeper rank in the University of Georgia Beekeeping program.  He currently serves the Coweta Beekeepers Association as their Education Coordinator and runs their Introduction to Beekeeping Class.

Although a hobbyist beekeeper, he has enjoyed visiting bee yards all over the world to compare beekeeping practices with those in Georgia.  Of course, that includes collecting honey from many countries also!
